EZBalance Lineup - More Information
System Requirements
EZBalance Lineup Software is a a Microsoft Excel based spreadsheet. You will need a PC with Microsoft Excel 2003 or newer.
How the EZBalance Lineup Spreadsheet Works
Step 1 – Input Roster, League and Team Information
Fill in the Player Information including name, jersey number and hitting and fielding ratings; league information including how many positions are fielded, the number of innings in the game, and the team name. Click the thumbnail below to see a screenshot of the input page.
Step 2 – Create Batting Order
A click of a button copies the roster to the Batting Order worksheet, where you create the batting order by typing the batting order number into next to the player’s name. The color-coded "Hitting Rating" information you input on the Roster page appears here to help you plan the batting order. Sort by the batting order, by clicking the "Sort by Batting Order" button. Continue tweaking and re-sorting until you’re satisfied. Click on the thumbnail below to view a screenshot of the Batting Order Worksheet.
When you are done creating your batting order, click "Copy Batting Order To Fielding Positions Worksheet". Note that you can make changes to the batting order later if necessary, but you must make those changes from the Batting Order page.
Step 3 – Assign Fielding Positions
Create first pass of fielding assignments
In the fielding positions worksheet, fill in position for each player under each inning with the fielding codes shown below. As you fill in the positions for each inning, color coding will alert you missing positions or have a position filled twice.
As you fill in the positions for each inning, color coding will alert you missing positions or have a position filled twice.
The columns labeled, "No. of Innings, Infield, P, or Catch" and "No. of Innings on Bench" will alert you to “fair playing time” issues: red shading means the player player may not be getting enough playing time or innings in the infield; yellow shading means he or she might be getting too much. See screenshot below.
Review the Fielding Visual diagrams
Review the color-coded Fielding Visual diagrams to spot weaknesses in the fielding positioning by inning. Positions with fielding rating of 4 - 5 appear as blue, ratings of 3 appear yellow, and ratings below 3 appear red. Fielding visual also will also help find any unfilled positions, and situations where multiple players were assigned the same position, and potentially dangerous position assignments. Click thumbnail below for screenshot. Additionally, if you would like to see more detailed information on the use of the Fielding Visual, click here.
Adjust and revise the Fielding Assignments
After reviewing the Fielding Visuals, then making modifications to the fielding assignments screenshots of the resulting Fielding Positions and Fielding Visuals are shown below. As you can see, all of the red and yellow shading that appeared in the columns to the right is gone, indicating that playing time is in balance.
